My Story

“You will go blind.”

— Dr. Wang · Taiwan

Those were the exact words spoken in a calm, matter-of-fact tone. No hesitation. No softening of the message. They sent me on a search that led to GlaucoProtect.

The Wake-Up Call

A year before that visit, I had been diagnosed with normotensive glaucoma by Dr. DJ. He explained that I had normal eye pressure—but that damage to my retinal and optic nerve was already occurring. He prescribed Taflotan, one drop in each eye daily, and sent me on my way.

While traveling in Taiwan, I ran out of my eye drops and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Wang for a refill. Taiwan’s healthcare system is known for efficiency. Doctors are direct. They tell you the truth.

Dr. Wang reviewed my pressures—currently 18 mmHg, with a target below 16, ideally below 14. He prescribed Alphagan, three times daily. Then, before waving the next patient in, he asked a question I wasn’t expecting:

“Are you taking any supplements to support blood circulation?”

I told him no. He suggested Ginkgo Biloba. That was it. The next patient was already walking in. But the question stayed with me.

Into the Research

I’ve spent 15 years in the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industry. I knew Ginkgo mostly as a memory supplement. For eye health, the standard supplements were Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and the AREDS 2 vitamins. Ginkgo for glaucoma was new territory.

The moment I returned home, I opened PubMed—one of the largest databases of medical research—and searched “Ginkgo biloba” AND “glaucoma”. The search returned 65 scientific papers: laboratory studies, animal studies, human clinical trials, and review articles. Two major benefits stood out—support for ocular blood vessel function and circulation, and antioxidant defense.

I searched further: “Dietary supplements” AND “glaucoma”. At the top was the Chaudhry 2021 review—a major paper examining 71 studies, including 11 randomized controlled trials, on how nutritional supplements may play a role in oxidative stress, cellular health, and normal physiological function.

71 Studies reviewed in the Chaudhry 2021 paper
11 Randomized controlled trials evaluated

Among all the nutrients reviewed, two stood out based on the strength of available research: Nicotinamide—a form of Vitamin B3 supported by a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial; and Ginkgo Biloba, with four human clinical trials showing observations related to circulation and visual function.

After reviewing the Chaudhry 2021 paper and conducting my own search for studies published after it, I identified three additional human clinical studies on nicotinamide and two on Ginkgo biloba. My conclusion was clear: these two nutrients had the strongest research base for supporting normal retinal and optic nerve function.

The Formula

Next I searched for supplements containing both ingredients. They existed. But there was a problem: the doses were extremely low—single to double digit milligrams. The published studies used far higher amounts.

[ 500 mg ]
Nicotinamide
Replenishes NAD⁺ to support mitochondrial metabolism in retinal ganglion cells. Dosage reflects the amounts used in published randomized clinical trials.
[ 120 mg ] · 24% Flavone Glycosides
Ginkgo Biloba
Standardized extract supporting blood vessel function and ocular circulation. Dosage and standardization reflect those used in published clinical research.

I leveraged my industry relationships with a trusted partner lab to develop a bespoke capsule combining both ingredients at clinically relevant doses. I began taking it every morning.

Within one month, I noticed changes.
What I Noticed

These are my personal observations. They may not be typical for others. But the difference was meaningful enough that I wanted to share this with anyone facing similar challenges.

Before
  • Eyes strained after one hour of screen work
  • Often had to close and massage eyes to rest
  • Sensitivity to bright sunlight
After One Month
  • Could work 3–4 hours with greater comfort
  • Eyes felt noticeably less tired
  • Less sensitive to bright sunlight
Why I Built This

My background in the supplement industry taught me one uncomfortable truth: many products on the market are inconsistent. Ingredients may not match label claims. Quality control is often poor. Price does not equal quality. That experience shaped everything about GlaucoProtect.

The goal was simple: create a supplement that combines science-informed ingredients, science-informed dosages, and strict third-party quality testing—all in one convenient capsule.

It started with my own diagnosisMy journey began with a personal diagnosis—and a search for real answers I could trust.

I built what I couldn’t findI created the product I wished existed—something I would confidently use myself every single day.

For the people closest to meThis is what I want my friends and family to take—because I care about their long-term eye health.

To help others facing the same riskI’m sharing this with anyone dealing with similar conditions, so they have a clearer path forward.

“Every batch of GlaucoProtect is tested by third-party internationally recognized laboratories. Each batch receives a Certificate of Analysis—think of it as a birth certificate for the product.”
